FACTS
- Producing heat from solar
panels (solar water heating) is approximately
400% more effecient than producing electricity
(PV cells)
- When shining, the sun transmits over 1kW of
energy over every square meter surface area
- Significant energy is available even under
lightly cloudy conditions
- Most home owners can use solar to provide
50% to 70% of their anual water heating energy
- A family of four can reduce their greenhouse
gas emissions by 1 tonne per year AND save
energy costs by installing a solar water heating
system
- Often over 50% of the total cost associated
with installing a solar water system can be
covered by grants & incentives
- Most solar water heating systems compliment
a conventional water heater, increasing total
hot water availability
- Modern solar water heating systems require
very little home owner maintenance
- Domestic water heating is typically much
more cost effective than solar space heating
since hot water is required all year round,
while space heating is needed most when the sun
is lowest in the sky and the solar day is
shortest
