FAQ

  • How much money is the Turn on the Sun incentive - The installer can provide specific price quoting, including the Turn on the Sun discount amount.  Current typical discounts are $1409 for a single collector system, and $1755 for a two collector system.
  • What will be my total cost for a hot water heating system - This is very install specific.  Single collector systems typically start at about $5100 before the Turn on the Sun or EnerGuide grants (about $2200 installed if you qualify for both programs).  Contact the installer for a detailed quote.
  • How do I sign up - Contact Rock Paper Sun Ltd, the program installer, for a quote and details.  Typically if your system is installed prior to the end of 2010, all that is required of the home owner is to sign a provision of access agreement similar to this example.
  • Is this related to the EnerGuide grant in Saskatchewan - No, although both programs receive a portion of their funding from Natural Resources Canada, this program is part of a pilot project solely focused on solar domestic water heating.
  • Am I eligible for both EnerGuide and Turn on the Sun - Yes this is possible.  You will need to determine your eligibility for EnerGuide through the administrators of that program, however it is acceptable to receive both the $1500 EnerGuide amount related to solar, and the Turn on the Sun incentive for installing a solar water heater.
  • I want to heat my house or garage with solar hot water, does that qualify - Not directly.  This program is only intended for using solar to heat your domestic water.  However, some home owners install systems which provide both domestic water heating and some form of space heating.  In these cases, as long as the domestic water heating portion of the system qualifies, you can receive the Turn on the Sun incentive for it.
  • Can I use the incentive towards a solar pool heating system - As with heating your home or garage, pool heating is not covered by this program, however, if you install a system which qualifies for this program and does domestic water heating as well as pool heating, you can still receive the grant.
  • Can I receive the incentive if I purchase a system and install it myself - Not typically, however, if you wish to actively participate in the install of your solar water heating system, you can discuss that with the system installer.
  • I have already had a solar water heating system installed, can I receive the incentive for that system - No.  The incentive only covers new systems.
  • Can I sign-up now and have the install completed at a later time - Possibly.  You can discuss with the programs installers.  In all cases, in order to qualify, the install must be completed prior to the end of 2010.
  • Is the Turn on the Sun incentive available outside of Saskatchewan - Although the Turn on the Sun program is limited to Saskatchewan residents, there are various other programs being funded by the same Natural Resources Canada Pilot project which are running in other communities.  See the NRCan pilot project page for a list of participating companies.
  • Is the incentive available in all areas of Saskatchewan - Yes, Rock Paper Sun (the installer) has committed to installing systems throughout the province.  Delivery/travel charges may apply.  Contact them (info@rockpapersun.com) directly to arrange install specifics.
  • What if I have a question that was not covered in this list - Email us at: contact@turnonthesun.com with your question, and we will do our best to answer it.  If others have the same question, we will add it to this list.
